Pirates releases kidnapped Nigerian crew after 39 days in custody

BW OFFSHORE: SENDJE BERGE UPDATE

In an update on Monday; the 10th of August 2020, BW Offshore reported that all of the offshore employees kidnapped in a pirate attack had been safely released. The crew had been in their custody for almost 39 days.

On 2 July 2020, at approximately 4:20 am local time, BW Offshore’s FPSO Sendje Berge was subject to an attack by pirates offshore Nigeria in which nine Nigerian nationals were kidnapped.

Nine Nigerian nationals had been kidnapped in the attack, BW Offshore said in a statement on 2 July.

The attack occured some 30 nautical miles southwest from Bonny Island, Nigeria.

The incident which occured onboard the FPSO ended with no crew member having any physical injuries.

Sendje Berge is situated on the Okwori field in Nigeria on contract to Addax Petroleum since March 2005.

SENDJE BERGE (IMO: 7360057) is a Floating Storage/Production that was built in 1974 (46 years ago) and is sailing under the flag of Singapore.It’s carrying capacity is 274333 t DWT. Her length overall (LOA) is 348.77 meters and her width is 51.87 meters.

The FPSO operator has not provided any further details about the attack and the release of crew members.

In May 2017, Addax terminated the contract for the FPSO Sendje Berge and requested BW to provide a demobilisation plan for the FPSO.

Later on, both companies later came to a contract extension agreement in October 2017. The contract extension was for a four-year fixed term with two additional one-year extension options, starting 6 November 2017.
